How To

How to make the perfect omelet

Omelets are a favorite breakfast food of mine. How do you make them perfect? I've tried many different methods and recipes, but none of them seem to work! I have some tips and tricks to help you make delicious, fluffy omelets every single morning.

When making omelets, it is important to be aware that eggs can be temperamental. Eggs must be purchased fresh, preferably organic, and kept chilled until ready for cooking. The yolks and whites will not form properly if they aren't kept cold enough. This causes your omelets to look oddly colored. It is best to use room-temperature eggs if you are going to cook them right away.

Another tip is to separate your egg before adding it into the pan. You don't want the white to get mixed with the yolk, as this could cause the egg to curdle.

You might burn the bottom of the egg if you place the egg directly on the stovetop. This could ruin the texture of your omelet. Instead, microwave the egg for 10 seconds before adding it to the pan. The microwave heat cooks your egg just right, without it becoming too soft.

Next, let's talk about mixing the eggs. You want to mix the eggs thoroughly before you add them. Turn the bowl upside down and grab the whisk to do this. Then shake the bowl vigorously. This way, the air inside the bowl gets whipped around and mixes the egg thoroughly.

Now comes the fun part - pouring the milk into the mixture. Pour half the milk into the beaten egg mixture and then fold in the eggs. If you still see streaks of eggs, don't worry. These streaks will disappear once the omelet has been turned over.

After folding the eggs, place the pan on medium heat and wait for the oil to start sizzling. Once the oil begins to heat, add 1/4 cup butter and swirl the pan to coat it. Carefully open the pan's lid and add salt to the pan. A pinch of salt will help prevent the omelet from sticking to the pan.

Once the omelet has formed completely, cover the pan and let it set for a few minutes. Flip the omelet over using a spatula or flip the pan upside down. Cook the opposite side for another minute. Take out the omelet and place it in a bowl.

This recipe works best with whole milk, but skimmed milk also works.
